Branding of Music Artists

http://ellahenley98.wixsite.com/brandingofmusicartis

Learning Comment:
From completing this research I have realised that branding is created through many different components not just the genre of the music.
Therefore, when I am creating and developing the brand for my own artist I need to be very aware of the way in which they are represented across all platforms, for example across the artist's logo, the costumes they wear and the way they are represented through their music videos.

Analysis of Digipak Adverts

Learning Comment:

From completing this research I discovered that there are alot of key conventions and features that are used in the majority of digipak adverts, I will use these in my own digipak advert as they are shown to be effective at engaging and attracting the audience. These codes and conventions include
  • using a medium camera shot, I will use this code and convention so that the image and representation of the artist or band is conveyed through strongly throughout the advert through the clothes as well as all the other elements.
  • positioning the artist so that they are either looking directly at the camera to create an intense connection with the audience and to create a powerful statement or to have them looking into the distance so that it creates a mysterious atmosphere that will also engage the audience.
  • displaying the conventional information that is featured on the majority of digipak adverts, this information includes the release date, artist name, digipak name and the highlight songs such as any number 1's or bonus songs.
  • considering using colours that are commonly used for digipak adverts such as white and black, however I will try and make it different so that it stands out from the rest for example the whole poster can be in black and white instead of colour like the majority of the digipak posters thereby engaging the audience as it is different to the others as it is more attractive.

30 Cut Clip What Do You Mean?

Learning Comment:
One thing I learnt from completing this task was that it is important to make sure that the actors learn the lyrics so that when they are lip-syncing it matches the music. As we only did 2 lines worth of lip syncing, we didn't have any issues matching the lip-syncing to the lyrics in the music, however this is something I will be mindful of when creating my own music video. One issue we did have with the lyrics were that we filmed the lip-syncing halfway through which meant that we had footage before the lyrics started, however due to the song having an intro before the song starts, this wasn't an issue for this particular song but we will have to be careful when planning our own.

Another thing to be careful about is continuity, at 0.50 our video plan appears on the hill in the background which wasn't there in the earlier shots.

From producing this clip, another thing I would change next time is the pace of the different shots, after watching it, with the music I feel the music is too fast paced and up beat for the speed of the shots and that it would have been more effective if they had been shorter to fit the pace of the song so that it creates synergy. This is another thing to be aware of when creating my own music video.
