Genre Research

Learning Comment:
From carrying out this research I have analysed the way in which genre is represented through mise-en-scene and the narrative and what conventions are typical to this genre.
For example from carrying out the research I have found that the most common narrative themes shown in Pop genres focus around love, parties, friendship and inner conflict.
The costumes tend to be based on modern fashion and trends as this demonstrates to the audience that the artist is up-to-date and popular.
The lighting used in music video tends to alternate between bright coloured lights and high key lighting to create a utopic atmosphere.

Ancillary Tasks

Learning Comment:

From completing this research, I now have a clear idea of what the ancillary tasks will look like when it comes to completing the final products, which means that I will be able to more effectively manage my time when it comes to completing the ancillary products. 

As I have a clear idea of the images I will be using for the ancillary tasks I am better able to create a strong brand image between the shots used in my music video and the shots used in my ancillary tasks and I will be able to created a universal representation across all platforms.

Shot list

Learning Comment:

From creating a shot list I am more prepared to film the footage for the music video.

I made sure that I was very detailed when completing this task as it will allow me to be able to communicate effectively with the artist in what she needs to wear and whether she needs to bring any props. I will also be able to give the actress a copy of the shot list so that she is able to better prepare for the filming.

I will also be able to be better prepared when it comes to filming for my music video as I will be able to know exactly what I have to do and what shots need to be filmed in which location using the correct props.

I am also able to use the shot list to make sure I have the props prepared in time for filming. For example in my music video I am filming scenes that use a milk bath and bath bombs to represent my artist exploring a new personality. In order for these shots to be filmed successively I have to be prepared.

Test Footage

Learning:
From filming the test footage I have been able to identify any possible issues and problems that I might encounter when I am filming the footage for my music video.
One of these issues is the camera I used two types of camera; one a simple digital camera and the second a DSLR. The first camera was unable to pick up the artist in the low key lighting however the DSLR was able to.
I found the coloured lightbulbs didn't produce much light and therefore I had to use white lights as well in order to help the artist be picked up in amongst the low key lighting,

Filming Diary 1

14/11/2016
I plan to begin filming my music video over this weekend. I have checked with my actress who is available all weekend but would prefer to film on one day rather than across the whole weekend. We decided on a four hour slot from 9am until 1pm on Saturday.

I was able to get all of my narrative filmed and have plenty of footage so that I can begin editing in my Media lesson on Monday. I managed to film from many different angles so that I have lots of footage that I am able to use in order to get a high quality end product. From reviewing my footage I have realised that I have used similar shots of the actress looking directly into the camera, I will therefore need to be more careful that I use different shots when I film all the performance footage.

LEARNING COMMENT 

From planning my branding logo for my artist 'Laban' I have realise how much it will create an image for the artist and affect how that artist is portrayed, I have also realised the importance of brand identity.

Filming Diary

13/11/2015

I had originally planned to begin filming today, however, I feel as if I am not ready to start filming therefore I will use the time I have booked with my actor today to practice test shooting and practice working with some of the props I plan on using such as the glow-in-the-dark paint I plan on using during the performance elements and the coloured bulbs. 

Another thing I plan to achieve by doing the test shot is to practice the lip syncing with the actor in order to make sure that when I film the lip syncing of a high quality and realistic. 

Initial Ideas Pitch

I planned an initial ideas pitch to present to my classmates in order to gain an outside opinion on my idea and so they can point out any issues and problems that I will have to consider when filming my music video.
